Coconut Report 37

Minnesota, US It was a fulfilling week. I am enjoying programming more than ever before, and I made progress on Rust hacking. It’s cold in Rochester, MN, and will be even colder next week. I found out that the daylight starts at 9am and disappears at 4pm. No wonder I slept so much. That is human nature to follow the sun. Sometimes there is a thin snow-like layer on the ground, reflecting lights.

Minnesota, US There isn’t much going on this week. We are still in Rochester, MN, and the covid-19 cases are rising steadily, around 100 new infections per day. The daylight hours are short, and it turns dark at around 4pm every day. It’s difficult to feel cheered up with the mostly cloudy weather, even though Christmas is close. Since my partner is in recovery and kind-of quit drinking, I finished all the beers we have.

Coconut Report 35

Minnesota, US We are still in Rochester, MN. Days have been surprisingly sunny in recent weeks. We have been hoping for snow! I started missing my apartment in Hangzhou and hoping both of us could enter China soon. Having been in the US since February, I almost forget the polluted air of Hangzhou or the not-drinkable tap water. China seems to be the safest place at the moment. However, as the vaccine hasn’t been produced and widely distributed to the whole world, it’s been and will still be a worrying time for us all.

Life and Health During Pandemic

My partner has stayed in Mayo Clinic for a couple of days, and the hospital doesn’t allow visitors during covid-19. It’s somehow lucky that the situation has happened in Rochester, MN, with the world-famous hospital around, but not in Montana or other places on our road trip. At this point, we were glad that we are still in the US, that he can communicate with doctors alone about his body and his insurance.

Minnesota, US We moved to a new Airbnb yesterday and of course we filled in our refrigerator with exciting beers, which calls for more tasting tasks – a lot more to come! It is almost the end of November and the end of 2020 as well. Families in Rochester are starting to decorate their houses, and we are thinking of doing ours too. There is already a Christmas tree standing in our living room.

Minnesota, US It only snowed once this week. The number of infections is rising. The daily new cases in Olmsted has been up to ten times as usual in these two weeks. We try not to go out often. What I Saw This Week US stock market went high early this week. It seems US people are happy with the result of the election. My WeChat moments thread was full of big news that China signed one of the world’s largest regional free trade agreements, R.

Test and Open An Issue

A couple days ago, I wanted to share a Rust blockchain-related video to the rib.rs learning page by posting a comment there. Then suddenly I found out something was wrong – it didn’t show my posted comment at all! I tried again, but nothing happened. I remembered it worked before in previous newsletters. Did I change any code by mistake when I pushed the last newsletter? I don’t see it from the git log.

Towards Note Management

I published another website for my public notes. As I take more and more notes, I want a place to review and easily memorize them. I previously tried Evernote, Hackmd.io, Notion, Obsidian, and some others I don’t remember. Since I use Emacs for typing and the browser for viewing, I don’t want a third window that distracts me. So I started to try different Emacs plugins. I want an easy-managing workflow of my knowledge base and free access to read from anywhere.
